Blood vessels are structures that transport blood from one part of the body to another. Arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, and veins are all types of blood vessels. The production of blood vessels is needed for tissue growth and healing. Sometimes the production of blood vessels can have negative consequences, such as when blood vessel proliferation leads to the growth of pannus tissue in rheumatoid arthritis.
