Orthotic Definition

Orthotics assist in improving the alignment and function of feet and ankles affected by arthritis, deformity, or injury. Orthotics devices such as heel inserts can be purchased over-the-counter. Patients should speak with their doctors if they require custom made orthotics such as ankle braces.

Some orthotics are designed to prevent certain foot and ankle conditions such as tendinitis from further deteriorating, and others help relieve joint pain during movement in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
