Polymyalgia rheumatica is an inflammatory condition associated with moderate to severe muscle pain and stiffness, most commonly in the neck, shoulders, and hips. Patients often experience fatigue, mild fever, and an overall feeling of illness. Polymyalgia rheumatica may last months or years but typically resolves on its own.
