Stem cells are cells that can self renew (divide and duplicate themselves) and develop into different types of cells, such as a blood cell, bone cell, or cartilage cell. Scientists believe that stem cells are essential to the body’s ability to repair damaged cells, such as healing after an injury. Many doctors use stem cell therapy to treat a variety of conditions, including arthritis, but it is not considered standard practice.
