Trigger Finger Definition

When the fingers or thumbs catch or lock into a stuck position when they move, it may be indicative of a condition called trigger finger. Trigger finger is caused by inflamed tendons in the finger swelling to a size too large to fit through a sheath they pass through during normal finger movement.

Conditions in the hand and wrist that may be associated with trigger finger include rheumatoid arthritis, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
