Synovectomy is a type of surgery done to remove inflamed synovial tissue that is the source of much pain and limited mobility. Synovectomy is an arthroscopic procedure used for the treatment of early rheumatoid arthritis that shows no signs of improvement with medical therapy. Though it may provide temporary relief, there is likely risk that the inflammation will eventually return.
