Synovial fluid is produced in the spaces between certain joints to help reduce friction and facilitate movement between articular cartilages. Certain disorders that cause inflammation of the synovial fluid cause severe pain and limited movement in the affected joints. Common conditions include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and gout, among others.
