How to Make Your Own Moist Heat Pack

Heat therapy increases circulation to aching muscles and injured areas of your body and can provide soothing pain relief. There are two types of heat therapy: dry and moist.

Moist heat packs are less dehydrating to the skin than dry heat. They also allow heat to absorb better into the skin and may relieve pain faster.

  • Sock
  • 4-6 cups of uncooked rice
  • Needle and thread (optional)
  1. Fill a sock or similar type of cloth container with uncooked rice.
  2. Tie or sew the open end of the sock to seal it completely.
  3. Microwave the sock for 1-3 minutes.
Use this moist heat pack by wrapping it in a towel or t-shirt and placing it on the affected body part.
